ofcourse you could preserve Master's ideas. just copy & paste ;)
if you have the time you could even put all his ideas together in a single file, edit it a bit and send the file to this forum, i mean to Ronnie, so everyone can benefit from it. would be great.

i am digging through posts of master -- using link from nova

master shared some of his knowledge from time to time
this post is an example -- http://www.lith.com/sites/rom2/forum/home.asp?start=60922

there he talk how to make absolute maximum damage weaponry using any kind of weapon
he talks also of a trick to make so that maximum damage weapons become ineffective if player levels past a certain skill level or body -- much interesting

multiple set of gear -- as he called it -- could be made so that players are forced to seek and assemble specific items depending on their level

is it possible to preserve this knowledge before it disappear from monolith forum?

true -- he always closed with ciao ciao
i know it mean bye bye
one ciao mean hello -- but you can use it like a single bye too

italian is a funny language
ciao and pizza are some of the more famous italian words of the world

Sadly, I did not get to know Master as well as I would have liked. I vaguely remember him playing on a few of the HATs (including several of mine) and I remember occasionally conversing via forum posts, but beyond that my memory fails me. One thing I definitely remember well, however, is his signature salutation at the end of every forum post "ciao ciao". That's how I will probably always remember him.

If you would like to get a better feeling for who Master was and what he was like (or if anyone simply wants to dig through old memories), I suggest you jump over to the Monolith forum and do a search for all messages posted by the author "Master".

Sadly, you will get more than just his posts because bot spammers have taken over that forum and there are now several thousand garbage posts per day. But at least Master's comments are recorded for all of us to read and cherish (at least as long as Monolith continues to host their forum).

he joined the rom2 community some 3 or 4 years ago.
i never asked him where he learned all that and he definitely wasn't one of the rom2 creators :D
all i know is that he was much more skilled in programing and stuff than he believed himself to be. like i said he was a very modest kinda guy. i did try and encourage him to do something with the talent he obviously had, but he was content with what he was doing at the time: security guard and enjoying his pretty girlfriend. that's about all i can tell you.

the item reference is a valuable document -- took many hours to make for certain

i have made experiment with the selection tool in the editor
is a great addition to make cute things -- but is not documented any where

i see master knew much -- more than i believed at the start
where did he learn all the rom2 things?

was one of the creators of rom2 maybe?

the trick to making the sqaures (or however you spell it) is to be creative with the selection and copy and paste tool in the editor. (the selection tool takes a bit of practice to use but with it you can make realy nice map designs)

btw nova do you have all the maps people ever sent to you? because ive lost some of my maps. The one i would luv to find a again is snake river (or something like that.) Its a huge 240 x 240 multiplayer map. I remember sending some people the defiantpack.rar (or something similar). Anyhow could y'all (specialy you nova) check for it?

gracias ;)

i can see you've put some time in checking out that map. very good!
indeed Master considered everything very carefully, even the naming of maps, as you already found out.
when he sent me the Skeleton King Quest map he wrote: Here's the map, enjoy it.
Don't worry I don't make maps all the time.
It's a hobby I have to fill spare time :)
Took a lot in the making, but was fun.
Be advised, the "oh-so-cute!" sheeps by the shop were
Maranna's idea
and you'd better not harm them, 'cause a deadly trap is
there to punish
their killer.
*cough* I had no choice! *cough*

Well, you'll see it.
I recommend you read the NOTES in the triggers list.
(Marianne was his girlfriend)

to better understand the background, Master was from Italy and he died in an accident in November last year at the age of just 27. very sad. i still miss him, his humor and his friendliness.
since you obviously learned to appreciate his map making skills, i'm sure Master wouldn't have mind you to have the item reference file. so i'll send it to your hotmail address :)

no need to say sorry if you feel you can not give me the reference
i would have no thing of similar value to give you back -- we are even

i have spent much time looking at the beauty full map to apprehend the use of logic
i have concluded that master knew much well how rom2 worked -- i can make examples

the two white spaces to separate the words king and quest in the map title are not a mistake
if you delete one space the word quest appear
with two spaces it disappear and players do not know the shop refurnish when you exit
it is behavior of quest maps i know

some monster is set to re spawn after two hours in contrast with the setting of one hour in other maps
can it mean the map need to play for two hours?
it is a big map -- maybe one hour is not sufficient to be sure to finish?

a quest spider in the forest appear blessed two times consecutively
it is not a mistake -- the spider can not be cursed because of it
you must drive the spider where the blessed traps can not reach

the cemetery is a deadly place -- but looking at the traps you find an uncursed spot
it appear after you bomb a tomb -- you can bless your self and fight back in that spot
i believe it is not a coincidence -- too many traps

the weapons and the armor in the bags when collected give you big power
if you make better weapons you obtain lower power -- it is a bug?
character life amount is set to a round number when the armor is complete and skills are at maximum
you must die one time to make it happen and level to maximum again -- it is an other bug?
i believe he knew of the bugs and prepared the weapons and the armor with care

it is a mistery how he could make the floor with squares in the center of the map
maybe he used a special program?

if i look more at the map i am sure i can find more -- i understand why you say clever

after setting up my old comp i can run rom2 and the editor with no problem. it runs the way i was used to, without even installing :)

and yes it's indeed the Skeleton King Quest map. Master unfortunately didn't make many maps, but the few he did make were very cleverly made.

the same can be said of his item reference file. it shows descriptions and pictures of all the items that can be created. very handy when making sets of gear. but as NOVA already pointed out Master didn't want the file to be publicly available. so i personally prefer to respect his wish. sorry grey fox.

I should have all the RH maps. I'll check around once I get home and see if I can find it (although it would help if anyone remembered the name of it).

i think i remember that map with all the triggers, but as i can't get rom2 to work, not even the map editor, i can't check Master's maps myself.
but if you or someone else saved the maps from last year's Reunion Hat you should have it.

a work of art indeed that shouldn't be handed out just to anybody. you got it as a personal favor/gift, so i'd say keep it that way.

what map you're referring to, with all the logic? good chance i have that map.

i remember it too, but now that hes no longer among us, and can get no ill affect of his work or so to speak i say lets host it.

And i mean come on that item refrence realy is a work of art!

Have you already found master's map ? the one with all the logic?

I have that document as well. However, I am not hosting it because my source for it specifically asked me NOT to distribute it.

If someone can convince me MASTER would want the document to be "public domain", I would gladly host it on the CHAOS9 HAT website.
