Alright so I finally figured out how to get this all to work properly on my computer. I downloaded a western release of ROM2 (available at either of the links below): Courtesy of NOVA from his christmas HAT he set up a decade ago: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/yrklwpip7kap2m3zsm5cs/ACCdrGozv38BkCxVRCCp3_g/ROM2?e=2&rlkey=3hs3zkhr96oiu1tcn5wmobwcs Or from Jultknight's drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JHGOEBrcEtEkX0a0Vxpm63rDpmbyAi5o You'll notice that the ROM2.exe file is slightly larger than the Allods2.exe file that you have in your GOG folder. I just swapped out Allods2.exe with ROM2.exe and renamed it back to Allods2.exe. Now I can start the game through GOG, I now have the option to join HATs and when I load quest maps, player-placed items show up on the map. Seems like everything is fully functional now. If only I had tried this step at the start of yesterday instead of spending the better part of the past two days trying to figure this all out ;p |

My understanding is the GOG version of the game does not recognize quest items. I haven't attempted any quests yet, but I read many accounts of people playing with the GOG version who can't see quest items drop from the monsters they kill. I think it's the same issue as being unable to see player spawned item bags on the map. There was a multiplayer patch that Nival released many years ago, but their hosting website for the game is down. There are plenty of versions of the game floating around on other sites. Unfortunately I get C++ runtime errors with an "abnormal program termination" as soon as I try to create a multiplayer game on all of those versions |

Yes they have special item drops, usually the extra strong enemies in a group

What's the purpose of the maps named "Quest"? Do they have any special items dropped by enemies or are they just meant to test if you can simply kill the enemies? I'd like to understand because these maps are extremely difficult, and I'd like to know if there's any special drop for each quest map or if it's just any map with extra difficulty.
