It should work on Windows 7 x64 as is. Of course it may require some permissions and since it don't know how to ask Windows about these, you should run it as administrator.

**
** A minor correction is needed **
**

I said:

an up-to-date WinXP O.S. will take ~7 GB
if you use a respectable swap file of 768 MB. Give it a 10 GB
virtal HD and you will have ~3 GB freespace to do stuff with.
>>

I should have said that...

The 768 MB is the amount of RAM VMware should dedicate to the WinXP guest.

This in turn will produce (inside the guest C:\) a swapfile of 1.5 GB.

Again, with a 10 GB virtual HD one such fully up-to-date WinXP will consume 7 GB, leaving you 3 GB free space.

Make adjustments as you like.
And do not forget the bunny.

ROM2 is no DOS game -- it wants DirectX and it wants Windows.

I personally do not know if ROM2 can run under Win7.
Maybe it can? I have no Win7 to try.

But I know it runs under WinXP 32bit. And since you have a
beefy VMware, you may install a WinXP guest. If you plan to
use Windows Update, an up-to-date WinXP O.S. will take ~7 GB
if you use a respectable swap file of 768 MB. Give it a 10 GB
virtal HD and you will have ~3 GB freespace to do stuff with.

WinXP DOES benefit from DirectX support under VMware.
This started with VMware version 5.5 or 6, I do not remember.

Although the ideal O.S. for ROM2 would be Win98SE, there is
no DirectX support for Win98 under VMware. At least so it was,
last I checked.

Long story short: VMware + WinXP + ROM2. Play.
And send me a bunny.

I'm one of those lucky few who grabbed an original disk of the RoM2 for cheap on Amazon, since my original was lost long ago.

Unfortunately, shy of dedicating a HDD to run Windows 98, I haven't had any luck getting it to run. I've tried installing and running it with Dosbox-0.74 and with VMware 9.0, and had little luck with either one. I can't even get the VMware to play any form of sound, and it gives me a "unable to set video mode" error every time I hit play, followed by a MV C++ runtime error stating "abnormal program termination".

I was very happy to find a few people out there who loved this game and still remembered it, and I'd just like some advice on how to get to where I can play it again. I'd hate to have to only be able to play it by restarting this computer to run windows 98 and little else periodically, but I might end up doing that if I don't find a better way.(sadly I don't just have an older secondary computer lying around)
