Oops, I mis-spoke. I first began the CHAOS series of ROM2 HATs seven years ago (not six). My how time flies !!!

Well, this isn't exactly a "new" idea. It's simply a re-tread of my CHAOS HAT from six years ago. Virtually nothing has changed from six years ago when I first began the series.

There are inns left in there, I simply removed the inns from the start locations so you have to get to them in order to use them. So you can still upgrade your gear. And there are a smattering of shops left in, but they are all empty. The shops are simply beacons where you can set respawn spots for your character in case you die.

The only significant alteration I have made in this latest incarnation of the CHOAS HAT concept (CHAOS 14) is the addition of a few of the classic "skilling" maps (urza, pits) which allow you to speed up your leveling and provide an alternate and relatively easy means to get some random gear (from loot drops).

I did not advertise the HAT being up again simply because I put it up solely for the benefit of Stone and his players. It was meant to demonstrate what I consider to be a well-designed and internally consistent HAT concept (seeing and playing it is often so much easier to grasp than a mere explanation of it).

Since Atton has opened pandora's box (so to speak), I might as well announce it myself. The HAT web site is at:

http://173.20.69.137

There (among other things) you will find:
- an auto registration page where you can make your own accounts
- a HAT status page that lists the map rotations, approximate time remaining until the maps change, and all players currently on the HAT
- a summary of the HAT concept
- an examination of the Value Point system, my Abyssal Maps, and how my KotA (Knights of the Abyss) gear adheres to the Value Point system rules
- several downloads (maps, game trainers, etc)

Keep in mind this site is also ridiculously old and out of date. Most of it dates back 5 years and was last updated in 2005 when I last ran the CHAOS HAT.

At any rate, there you have it. And I want to apologize in advance for the periodic LAG bombs I am experiencing. Something is wrong with my computer and/or my ISP and it periodically causes my entire computer to freeze up for up to 15 seconds. Though it is annoying as hell, the good side is that the monsters are also frozen. Again, my apologies in advance. It's annoying and a nuissance. My cable TV is also experiencing video and audio glitches. And it's not just me, others in my town are experiencing the same thing.

Bah, that is about the opposite of how I like to play these games. I find it terribly annoying when I can't spend my gold in decent shops. One of the finest things in ROM2 was the abillity to upgrade your stuff by doing quests. Also I think it was a complete mistake to set a level 3 cap on body- and other items (where it was 5 before) in the Nival/Monolith servergame.

Same thoughts about NwN. No good droprate? No way to spend gold on decent items? Need to get to top level of the game to access 'priveliges'? = no play for me!

I wonder why you guys are figuring out ways to make gameplay of these old games so much harder. Is it too easy? Than play Guild Wars in Hard Mode lol!

NewConcept Rom2 Hat Server

Players of Rom2:

If you haven't tried Nova's Rom2 Server you should.

His concept is a bit different than the 90+ body idea.

Let's back up a space and think about what having high Body means! When you mod the amror and clothing to give high body you really by pass the idea of the game. It is no longer so challenging. The fix was to make the monster stronger aka level 5 Horror maps with nasty spiders and bees and bats and bless them (Thanks Nova for that explaination of blessed chreatures)

Supposing instead of making hard and hard maps to keep the game interesting we do something different.

Let remove the shops and the inns.

Think about that!!! You start with low health and no pots. Hummm can this work? Yes it can. Takes a bit of Patients and a different playing technique. But it works. Nov's Server has done just that.

Not only does it keep the game more exciting at all levels it makes mage and warrior more equal.

Nova has renewed my interesting in Rom2. His server has auto sign up. You really own it to yourself to try this. I will let Nova post his IP and Server details.

I am just getting to medium and hard maps now. About 760 health. His Idea is very valid. If I run a server again which I am thinking about. I am going to use his idea to keep the Server fresh and keep the excitment in the game. Forget level 90 chrs.

well Those potions cant get you all the way to 90 by themselves. commonly they are acquired by killing high level monsters, Dragons and such. but the quest only gives you one at a time and it would take a long time to farm enough to max yourself out. some maps have monsters that drop them. the easiest way to get 90 on the core skills is by creating the armor using the editor, but that ruins the game experience for the player. the potions names are a given if you try to find monsters carrying them in the editor.

How do you possibly max out your body to 90 when theres only items that give you +5 body at the max iv seen potions that increase your attributes by one but thats rare to find them. someone care to tell me?

Ditto for what Albadaran said.

I would also add, you will be greatly aided if you develop a set of gear that gives you at least 550 DEFENSE. No monster besides a spider, bat, bee, and dragon will even hit you with such defense. And if defense is not your method of choice, then a strong offense can also help you. Use a weapon that casts either "stone curse" (try for at least 15.0 seconds duration) or "curse" (try for at least 100%) and you will be greatly advantaged in a fight as well. Stone curse will hold your attacker in a frozen state so they cannot even attack you at all. Curse will ensure they do their minimum damage per hit (rather than mid or even high range). This tactic is especially effective against monsters with a wide damage range (such as level 5 spiders which do 20-2000 damage per hit). Cursed 100% means they always do their absolute minimum which is 20 damage. On average they do about 1000 damage per hit. Blessed 100% they do 2000 damage per hit.

If you can't find a weapon that curses the monsters, try using elven curse scrolls. They are nearly as effective but you do have to remember to cast them and target your enemy. If/when the spell wears off, you have to cast it on them again. When this casting feature is on your weapon it's one less thing to have to worry about in the middle of a fight.

You think the orcs are bad...haha. Wait until you get hit by a blessed level 5 skeleton. They do 45-4045 damage per hit. So 100% blessed means 4045 damage per hit. Yes I typed that and you read that right. 4045 damage per hit. But if you have defense of around 550 or higher they almost never get lucky enough to score a hit on you. No monster will except those who have attack modes that bypass your armor protection (such as spiders which use poison, bees which sting, bats which use sonic attacks, and dragons who use breath weapon attacks).

Good luck,
NOVA

Max out body (90-92) and you will have so much health and healthregeneration that every monster exept a level 5 spider) is really childplay...
