Thank you for the explanation! It looks like I have a lot to learn :)

Every decission has consequenses. Unfortunately my current sorcerer on Jult's server does not have an alignment to become a monk. But I will make this combo in future. No doubt I play more magic users in newly started games. And than try to compare the 'old' situation with your spellsystem of course. But that may take a while. Thanks again!

Hello Albadaran.
I am sorry to reply this late.
These last days are... difficult.

I -personally- would not mix any Prestige Class with Sorcerer or Wizard.

These Core classes entirely depend on their spells.
And their spells entirely depend on their class levels and the Ability points you invest in the primary ability (Charisma/Sorcerer, Intelligence/Wizard).

To take a Prestige Class not only you divert class levels into something else, but you also divert Ability points to improve the traits of the Prestige Class.
You trade a lot.
What do you gain in return from the Red Dragon Disciple (RDD)?

Looks like you do gain a lot - after all.
In 10 RDD levels:
-- +4 Natural AC
-- +8 Strength
-- +2 Constitution
-- +2 Intelligence
-- +2 Charisma
-- Darkvision
-- Immunity to Sleep, Paralysis and Fire.
-- 6d10 Fire Breath weapon.
-- Lof of HP (from special Hit Dice growth, though not retroactive).
-- A 2nd Rate BAB (3/4).
(and more if you continue with RDD)

What about the Base Attack Bonus (BAB)?
You get the RDD because you want to add melee capabilities to your Sorcerer, no?
But no melee capability is good if you lack the BAB to use it.

Let us see. There are 3 BAB grow rates.
1st rate gives you a BAB 4/4. That is, +4 BAB / 4 Levels.
2nd rate gives you a BAB 3/4. That is, +3 BAB / 4 Levels.
3rd rate gives you a BAB 2/4. That is, +2 BAB / 4 Levels.

These make a difference only in the pre-Epic levels (1 -- 20).
When you get to the Epic levels (21 -- 40), the BAB becomes 3rd rate for everyone.

And there is a rule for Prestige Classes. You may not gain the eleventh Prestige level if you have not gained the tenth Core level.

Sorcerer is a Core class, of course.
As BAB grows differently in the pre-Epic levels, we have to see what BAB we can build during these.
Makes sense?

You may take levels in the following order:
-- Level 1...10 = Sorcerer
-- Level 11...20 = RDD

The BAB is... 2/4 x10 + 3/4 x10 = 12
Only 12. 12 BAB means 2 attacks per round. 3 if you Haste yourself.
4 if you also go for dual weapons. But the penalty for dual weapons would cripple your little BAB. Unless these weapons are godly -- but here we enter in the realm of "what will you find where you will play".
We must remain on facts. Facts are only those pertaining the character build.
12 BAB and only 3 attacks per round are an insult for any level 20 melee Character.

You need better.
Prerequisite for RDD are: Bard native or Sorcerer native, plus 8 ranks in Lore skill.
Vanilla prerequisites :-)

Lore is a Class-Skill for everyone.
So you could amass 8 points in 4 level ups.
You can unlock the RDD at level 6.

This gives us enough room to plan for a better BAB and number of attacks per round.
The Monk class is the perfect addition.
Monks have a 2nd rate BAB, like the RDD.

What happens if we gain the classes in this order:
-- Level 1...4 Sorcerer
-- Level 5 Monk
-- Level 6...15 RDD
-- Level 16...20 Sorcerer

The BAB built is 12 again (if I count good).
But the attacks per round become 4 (thanks to the Monk).
They become 5 if you use "Flurry of Blows" (thanks to the Monk).
They become 6 if you cast Haste.
7 if you dual wield (but since you are Monk, they have to be two Kama weapons)

But let us count 6 attacks only.
6 attacks without taking feats! That is real good.
I say it can work.

And your 12 BAB becomes 16 AB thanks to the 8 base Strength from the 10 RDD levels.
But your attacks per round stay 4 (base) and you have to fight _unarmed_ (Monk clause, remember).

Are you willing to accept this?
To fight unarmed and without armor? (though you can use any Monk/Sorcerer gear)

If yes, you are set with a character with decent potential.
You only need to decide what to put in your Epic levels.
I would suggest you raise Sorcerer to 19, and gain the remaining 10 levels in RDD.
Sorcerer 17 is enough to unloack all 9 Tiers of spells, so you know.
But most originalspells to power up until caster level 20.
You may want to take advange of this, and so be happy with 19 RDD levels total

But this a choice of balance. Your choice, not mine.

Summoning Foxes :)

I started a sorcerer in Jult's rom3 project. And it is very tempting to leave the sorcerer path for a wile to devellop Red Dragon Diciple qualities. Because they seem to make a sorcerer much stronger. But at what cost? Would it be better in the long terms to make a level 40 sorcerer instead of a level 30/10 sorc/diciple combo?
