OK, I have my old piece of shit computer sort of working again, finally. I created a 20 gig partitian on the hdd and reinstalled windows XP. I then manually updated all the way to SP3 and updated the web browser. So now it's crude, but at least I'm back into the 20th (though not the 21st) century. I can browse the web and check email once again.

I ran out of room on that small partitian trying to reinstall NWN, so I'm screwed on that front. But I do have another computer that is offline on which I am still both hosting and playing World of Torr. Shame I can't connect to the internet with that thing. But oh well.

So....if ANYone is planning to make a Christmas HAT this year, you can count me IN. I don't want to host the thing, but I would be willing to help work on it (maps, config files, etc).

Bueller? Bueller?

Haha, my mistake. Let the floggings begin.

P.S. Gray Fox, I feel compelled to thank you once again for your expertise and for creating the Inn System for the World of Torr NWN module. That and your masterful update of the module to NWN v1.69 truly made that module 1000% better. I could never have accomplished that in a million years (you did each in a matter of days/weeks). Thank you!

I wouldn't mind playing BUT...

I still don't have a working computer and I have zero access to the internet at home. I don't know if that will change as Christmas approaches. And if I ever got one, I'd have to re-install the ROM2 game (really everything because I lost everything).

So put me down as an official maybe.

I don't even know if anyone reads this forum anymore. You may be asking a question in an empty theatre.

Lord Atton (and others):

The time you mention is when its night here, so I'll be asleep. Besides that: Hollidays are over. Back to work and on the -short- evenings when I have some spare time: back to Dragon Age and Guild Wars.

Defiant spent a lot of time on his very detailed map and he was very helpful: Thanks for that! At the same time I must admit that this was not a map I liked to play. A confession: I may be a rom2 player from the very beginning of the game, but I only manage to do 1 Horrorquestmap on my own: Rodion (and only the shield). That is the reason why my own maps always provide easier solutions. Defiant would guide my trough the map, but that is not the way I like to play.

Well, everyone has his own ideas about gameplay. Both NOVA and Defiant tend to make things harder where I try to make things easier. Yet: Defiant thanks for all your effort!

Albadaran,

Yes I agree we need to group. There are some Necros in the Forest area when you drop in. There are three of them I think. They have stat pods, they are hard to kill. Two or three mages of medium level could take them out. Split the pods. My mage is 327 health and just about total in skills. Have Fire and Water to finish to 100.

Question is time. I usually play around 10pm Pacific Standard time. Not sure what time is good for you.

I am planning to move soon. That may getinto the mix here. But I would like to group up with you or Nova or anyone else who wants to have some Rom2 fun.

Let me know when you can be on!

Nova is not too big on Rom2. He has been working on Rhun and fixing many of the problems in the module. Got to give him credit for that.

Maybe we can get him on. Now as to BB King and Grey Fox I can't say. Love to see more of the old players come on out.

Take care!

Lord Atton

Studied the map and played. Fortunately Defiant was there too to help. The map favors magic users, especially Drain Life is very helpful at the start. Also I find it typically a team map. Soloing is sooo dangerous! Therefor I hope some more people will join. Lord Atton, Nova, where are you guys? BB, you could give it a try if we manage to get online at the same time.

There are some serious drawbacks though. As I said above the map favors magic users. Warriors really NEED health pods or they will inevetably DIE while exploring. There is no escape but running back to a shop. As a consequence high level monsters are sometimes lured to 'easy' area's.

Defiant made his map so that you can use teleporters to horror in the easy sector, guarded by high level monsters. I think that a more 'linear' setup is better: 1 easy part with 1 teleporter to 1 medium part; med to easy and hard; hard to med and horror. And only easy level monsters on easy, med on med, etc. I know a horror chr would have to make a long run to horror this way, but it saves a lot of frustration compared to the situation as it is now.

Yet, if we all join together it should be playable. But it would even be better if Defiant made some changes. Either health pods or clearly defined easy/med/hard/horror sections.

Ok here we go:

Quick start guide

In this map there are 2 spot were u could drop in. One is in the desert area, for starters move up an take a left at the shop there are some easy monsters and gear there. Dont go left under the shop it leads to gaurded tele pads (spider 4). these go to hard and horror (the map is kindof big so u need them later in the game).
After u explored the smal easy area i suggest you either move up from the shop or move down to the other tele pad.

Wich brings us to the other place u could drop, this is more a forrested area. you can only go right there. if you move right u will notice a split with a grave fence, dont take the down route because there is a lvl4 druid, necro and ogre (they have lots of pods thats why there so hard). I suggest trying the goblins a bit further and the succubus i believe it has some gear and perhaps a pod. Turning left at the goblins will lead to a few stronger groups both with pods and bether gear then what u have now.

After that your on your own.

If you want to learn more about the map i suggest threating it like a horror map and opening it in editor (remember to turn color dehpt to 16 bit)

and also i suggest to open up a hamachi group chat in wich players who are going on can ask if anyone want to join them.

Don't worry, I'll give it a try during Christmas hollidays. Don't have much time right now. Somewhere this weekend I'll study the map.

I hope you change your mind bbking, would be sad not to have u around.

And for the last time... this hat isnt hard, its realy easy.

But because of the limitations of having all 4 lvls(easy, med, hard, horror) in one map you just have to look at the editor first. You could wonder right into hard or even horror (although i put some gaurds at the tele)

For the rest its realy easy there is gear al over the place, on second though perhaps players arent used to a hat that has the podhack disabled.

Bah i hope nova like it ... nova?

Some time ago I tried to open my editor but it did nothing.
Just for playing that shouldn't be much of a problem if a hat would be any way near "normal". I like surprises.
What I understand from the discussion so far is that Defiant's one-map-hat is far from being normal. No health potions and having to use the editor all the time makes it hard, even in the easy parts.
I agree with Albadaran, first and foremost it should be fun to play, the more so considering the limited time a hat will last.
Despite all Defiant's efforts and time spent on this map (which btw I haven't seen) I can imagine what it will be like: very hard to advance and dying a lot.
Me too, I'd prefer a cozy hat where there's time and enough safe spots to chat and share experience and stuff. For me that's what multiplayer is about. That's what made rom2 so outstanding in the old days. But, alas, that's the past and only memories remain.
In short, it's balance first and people next. I know how hard it is to make a balanced hat so every player (not just a few die-hards) can have a good time and that there is more to it than just creating a map.
My not working editor and what I read so far has been off putting enough for me to not even trying to play Defiant's Xmas hat. No disrespect to you Defiant, it has everything to do with me.

Btw, just finished playing Dragon Age (thanks to Albadaran) with 3 mages and 1 warrior. Wow, that was fun! except for the loading times (5 - 10 minutes!!).

This is the same reaction a few of the play testers had when they started the map. Sure it has a number of flaws but what map doesnt. Like the spider for instance is to keap people from going to the hard area.

But believe me when i say it grows on you and you will get the hang of it. And btw this map revolves mostly around quest gear and whel u kindof need to open editor to locate it...

oh and i dropped the gold next to the shop for ya ;)

Giving it a 2nd thought I realize it's quite useless to play without studying the map first. Some creatures are very persistent in chasing you and there are no places to hide. Waiting in the 'easy' shop now with a spider outside. Nova had the same thing yesterday.

It looks like my idea to 'adventure' and only team up on Horror won't work here. Too bad!
Oh well, its still a good map to host with some 'normal' maps one the same hat. I'll probably do that in future.

I suppose that 'we' is Nova and you. But you guys are used to explore maps on the editor first. But most of us just play and trust the game will 'lead' us to challenging situations which we are able to solve without checking the editor. Sure, if I host a game I test and check the editor and guess what? If I find that its all about finding that 1 spot and ultimate timing, I just edit the map to offer easer alternatives. Nivals horrorquestmaps are no examples of how maps should be made. They are for die hards only. Player hats should always offer easier solutions. You and Nova are die hards. Most of us are fun players.

No, I won't take a look at the editor. Yes I would like the 100.000 gold back. And play until it becomes impossible to get further without shopping and killing monsters without knowledge of who drops what...

I actualy disagree with you, this hat is not hard.

It only requires people to go look at it in the editor.

During playtesting we found that it actualy pretty easy if u know how, now i will admit that the horror part is pretty hard especialy with the lvl 6 groups at the top right (hint STAY THE FUCK AWAY!! they attack from 6 spaces away!)

Anyhow just play it a bit and im sure everyone will get the hang of it.

Trust me there is gear EVERYWHERE!

well have fun and if you have any questions, dont hecitate to ask.

I did not realize it would be a 'hard' hat.

When Lord Atton complained about the horror region I thought he probably had hurried too much to get there. A carefully build chr. should do. But I'm quite sure he practiced while using health potions, so this won't make him happy either lol!

Anyway, around Christmas I like to play cozy games, while having a conversation, just relaxing and having fun. I regret now that I did not prepare a hat of my own. Weird enough your map would be a perfect Horrorquestmap on such a hat. You did a good job making it!

I think your hat is still hard enough with healing pods available. And good stuff to buy. As it is now, only Nova and maybe BB -if he joins- would like it...

Yeah potions dont work and like other stuff has an added 0.

Anyhow if you realy care about 100.000 il giv that back to you, but like i told you in game.. money is useless.

So to all who havent played any hard hats in the last 5 years:

- potion of small health dont work.
- potion of big health dont work.

oh and books are more expencive..

What da hell is going on in those shops? I spent 7 hours killing low level monsters, gathering over 120.000 gold, than decide to buy a few low level health potions... But it lags like hell and I get only 2 of them. Than I notice my gold has dropped to 11.000!!! 2 Potions worth 500 in my inventory and over 100.000 gold just disappeared. This really sucks!!
