Yep. And now I would like Atton's opinion on this matter since he was the first one to inform me about NwN :)
But now I don't see him post about this subject. Too busy playing?

As to the number of players on ROM2, it's going to take some serious effort to coordinate that. You can't just sit back and rely on random chance and luck here. The time zone differences plus the incredible lack of patience exibited by the players means those players who do exist rarely accidentally find each other in the first 24 hours. If they give up that first day, they never realize how many others just like them were out there.

NWN1 is not difficult to get, give me a break. You can find it all over the place (ebay, local thrift shops, hell you can even download the game legit direct from Bioware.com) And getting the upgrades/patches is also no problem. Those are also available direct from bioware.com. You have to patch ROM2 don't you, why is that so easy buy updating NWN1 is suddenly too challenging for the players?

As to the Rhun module, as a player only you don't even need it. Unlike ROM2, the module in NWN exists server side only. Each section is transmitted as needed to each of the players while in game. But if you still wanted it anyway, you can get the module easy as pie. Do a google search and you have it. I also have the modded module with all my changes freely available for download if anyone wants it. I also have a host of other NWN and Rhun world related utilities available. You make it sound like it's a hassle to set NWN1 up....it's not. If you can turn the computer on, you can handle installing this game.

As to NWN1 vs NWN2, you'll find that even though NWN2 is newer, most of the players abandoned it and returned to NWN1. There are hundreds upon hundreds of players at all hours of the day playing NWN1 on upwards of 150+ public servers. And this is 8 years after the game was released. Who knows how many more private servers are out there (mine is private). The support and community size for NWN dwarfs ROM2 so bad as to make it laughable. Don't get me wrong, I still like ROM2. It's a great game. I'm just saying NWN1 offers all of the same great features that made ROM2 such a good game, but it does so on a much more vibrant, flexible, and better-supported game engine/platform. I think ROM2 fans would REALLY love NWN1 so I have encouraged them to check it out. That's all.

Haha :-)
I feel my jacket pulled...

A server you say?
Telephone company will not pull a DSL cable down here just for me.
In this sense I am cut from the rest of the civilized world.

And DSL cables would bring more people to these parts.
The "civilization"... over-rated concept.
I like it peaceful :-)

Yes, but I came to this forum for rom2 lol! It would be great if those people simply played rom2 all at the same time in the weekends.

And again, its easy to get nwn2 and its add-ons for cheap, but all the hassle to get nwn1 and that particular rhun mod, and the correct patch... just for playing mostly alone??? I understand its fun working on that mod, I have the same thing with rom2 maps, but in the end we all play on our own server as if its singleplayer...

Of course I hope you play on my server, but there's ample other servers out there to play on. And there is no reason why you have to just play other people's servers. Heck, I think you'll find the game so fun and so liberating that my may well just be inspired to run your OWN server. I keep hoping Atton and Gray Fox (and others) will do just that. I know they have the desire...I'm just waiting for the actual server.

There are seven of us playing on my server now. My goal is to get that number over ten. Partly because we do not all share the same time zones (so our play time hours do not always overlap) and partly just because it's a double-digit number.

So join us. And bring a friend (or three). The game is far far superior to ROM2.

The question, BB, is: how many players (average) are online when you are playing?

no handy lonely-planet guide of the Rhun world?
i must become a real adventurer and gradually experience and discover new areas on my own then.
or maybe a party, if there are other players, besides Nova and BigDan.
i appreciate all the tips i can get, thanks!
and i definitely will make notes like NOVA suggests.
in the last few weeks i managed to play NWN 1 and ended the HotU campaign as a level 27 monk.
so i learned a bit how NWN works. and i must say it's a very nice game.
Albadaran, don't hesitate, get the game and come and play. you won't regret it!
i'm a level 11 monk now. so, monsters ... beware ... here i come!

@ Nova, where do i find all the Rhun stuff of yours? can't find the Hamachi shared folder you were talking about.

Looks like NWN2 is objectively worse than NWN1 (save for the graphics).
People have complained a lot.
There must be reasons for that :-)

NWN1 is still widely played. "Alive and kicking" you would say.
Community is active and they make new modules to this day.

BB: I saw NwN 2 for 15 euro in the local shop. Why are you guys playing the old game?? My nephew could not find his cd so I did not see it yet.
Another thing: I just started 2 singleplayer games: X3: Terran Conflict and a very puny game with turnbased fights: King's Bounty: the legend.
So there's little time for other games :)

Do not feel pressed in completing your Guild quest as you start Rhun.

Go outside and take a few levels first.
Then you will beat him no problem.

You can die and respawn all you want so long you are below level 5 or 6. I do not remember.
Past that point, if you die you lose some XP and some gold.
Be used to it, Rhun is no easy place.

When you die you also lose all the quest items you are carrying.
So do not wander in dangerous places when you have some quest item you could use to complete a quest.
First complete the quest, then go wander. Common sense -)

Gold will not be a problem. Go South of Etum. The place is called "Galum Hills".
You find Goblins and some other little things.
Chances are that they will drop the occasional "Rift Hammer" (goblins usually do).
That weapon is worth +170K GP if you sell.
Plenty of cash to fill up with bags and potions.

When you sell stuff, know that your own Guild shopkeeper will give you the best prices.
All other shops in town will buy lower and sell higher.

Stock on potions. Potions of "Heal" are the best.

Shops do close at 18:00, and reopen at 07:00. Or is it 08:00?
Always look at the clock before making a long trip back to town for shopping. The hours run fast.
Anyway your Guild shop is open for you 24h.

Try to complete as many quests you can from the Etum NPCs.
Some of their rewards are very handy.

If you find "Boots of Haste", do keep them!
Otherwise you can get an equivalent by completing one of the quests.
This is about recovering the "Mask of Etumnus".
It is a long trip down.
Stock up on potions before you go for it.
Better you complete your guild quest first, and get the reward.

Quests from Etum NPCs make you travel far and wide. If a quest sound too complex, or if a place you have not yet visited is mentioned, likely the quest is dangerous.

Get accustomed in travelling the Wyvern Spine.
Consider it your highway to move around in Rhun.
Some dangerous places are accessible from there. Be careful.
And 1 place in particular is deadly, the "Caves of Despair".
If you accidentally find it, do not wander inside alone.

I think it is enough for now.

Also, you do not lose anything by dying until you reach level 5 I believe (or maybe it's 4th level). Once you reach that point, though, you lose 10% of your gold and you lose I think 10% of the XP required to make your next level. So dying 10 times in a row can get VERY costly.

One way to prevent losing this is to play in a party and have raise or resurrection items. You only lose gold and XP if you respawn in the VOID. Obviously, if you play solo, there's no way for someone to raise you back to life and you have no choice but to respawn.

Hmm...if you ask me, I'd say you prolly deserved it....hahahaha. j/k

Seriously, I know of no players' guide to Rhun (though that doesn't mean one does not exist). The challenge is to roam around and discover stuff. Talk to all the NPCs you run into. The ones in Etum that are not walking around will be the ones who either have quests for you or are the object of those quests.

The World of Rhun is gigantic and it's real easy to get lost. As such, I began making my own skeletal map of the place. I have that still, though it's not really up-to-date. I have a LOT of pencil scratchings on it that I have not added to the AutoCAD version. You're welcome to use my map (in its unfinished condition) if you want or you can begin making your own. Bottom line, I would strongly advise you to start keeping some notes or you're going to get overwhelmed and lost very quickly in Rhun.

I made a character, a monk!
First mission was to try and calm someone down, who was being a nuissance, Syrdev. Even presented him with a bottle of good wine. The fucker wacked me down, just like that.
Didn't lose anything, cuz i didn't have anything lol.
This made me wonder if there are any noob guides for this module?
