no the load time i say is when i load a savegame to resume my play
my area loadings last few seconds -- six or ten when it is very bad

maybe lord atton has low free memory?
given the module size i imagine much ram is needed

i have learned to live without quests -- for now
a single minotaur can best me and so i must play fox for a whale

the day i best a minoaur i start a self appointed quest to estinguish the race
and whales too
wizards must have noble scope in life -- no?
like japanese researchers

you are right there are autosave settings in the config files
i take they are at default -- never modified them
autosave is good feature -- in case of crash i have very fresh backups
autosave does not seem to be time based -- it triggers when i rest
with me being wizard you can figure how often i rest

speaking of gear i agree on the crappy stuff in shops
you are motivated to hunt for goods
i have collected some nice things -- a pity i can not use them yet

i particularly like the implementation of shops
- they close at 18 hours and if you are shopping they kick you out
- appraise skill is ignored
- to get best prices you must sell stuff to merchant it belongs

yes i did notice the many grammar erors
even i can rite a bette renglish :-)

cast continual flame on an item and it will glow brightly forever
cast continual flame on a junk item and it will fetch higher price

my logic is flawless

Keep in mind I am not the author(s) of the Rhun module, but I'm going to presume to answer for them and defend their module anyway.

1. As to the loading time, I'm assuming you mean the time it takes to load each region as you travel around the world. I don't know what to tell you here. Lord Atton experiences the same long load time, but no one else playing my server does. There are even a few players who have a faster load time than me, and the game is running right on MY computer. The load time for everyone else is about 2 seconds between regions. So, the problem is not with the module itself, it's something else (but I don't know what). If you ever figure it out, please tell me so I can relay it to Lord Atton and he can fix his load time issue as well.

2. The saved games occupy that much space because that's how damned big this module is (and each saved game is just a complete snap-shot copy of the state of the whole module). You're simply going to have to live with that unless you play on a dedicated server (such as mine) where all character files and server backup files are stored on MY computer not yours. The module itself is run from MY server and you do not even need the module file to play on a dedicated server just like you don't need the maps in ROM2 (they load as you play). You only need the module file if you plan to play on your own computer totally separate from the server or if you plan to run your OWN server using this module.

3. Yes, the journal does not track hardly any of the quests. This is my personal largest complaint as well. The module scripts could be altered to rectify this, but I lack the knowledge (and more importantly the motivation) to tackle this myself. But can I suggest to you that it's far less of a hassle than your first impression. Taking handwritten notes as you play is not that much of a hassle, plus I have an excel sheet on my hamachi shared files which documents ALL of the quests I have found so far and you are welcome to download and use that. If you are part of Lord Atton's hamachi network for his ROM2 HAT, simply right click my name, and choose BROWSE and you will see all my shared World of Rhun files (color maps, full color world guides, excel quest log, even a clunky region transition map I started to navigate my way around the world). If not, simply ask and I can try to email the file(s) to you.

4. I don't know why your character is being exported so frequently nor do I know how you are running the module. Are you running your own dedicated server? If so, do you perhaps have the autosave timer set? Do you perhaps have your solo player game preferences set to autosave your character every XX minutes? This complaint has nothing what-so-ever to do with the Rhun module, it's your game settings doing this, so don't hold this one against the module.

Despite the minor inconveniences (a 5th being a butt-load of spelling errors btw), this module is absolute GOLD if you just have the patience to stick with it a bit and discover some of what's there. Remember the average module size for NWN is maybe 10-15 meg while Rhun is 100 meg. That should tell you how much more game content exists in the World of Rhun. The module is designed to accomodate every character class (as well as having about 15 or so sub-races you can play, such as Vampire or Drow elf each with their own unique cities in the world). The World of Rhun is simply HUGE compared to your average NWN module and that's why the file is so big. Frankly, if the journal entries was fixed and the spelling errors were corrected, the Rhun module would be better than 99.9% of the products coming out of the professional game companies. And the Rhun module is the work of a team of ameteur Australian gamers who spent over 2 years developing and improving this module for their own Persistant World server and have been generous enough to make a version of it available FREE to the public.

If it makes you feel better, my first reaction to the module was extremely negative as well. I thought it was cumbersome, confusing, and a total pain in the ass to play. After a 2nd look, however, I began to see past the minor flaws and see the absolutely phenomenal parts of the module. I began to see the sheer vastness of it as a GOOD thing rather than a bad thing. I began to see the crummy gear available in the shops as a great motivator to venture out into the world in search of bigger and better treasure. I think you too will find the good points will very soon far outweigh the handful of minor flaws if you simply have a few extra days of patience and play through it. Try playing on my dedicated server. That should alleviate your storage space concerns and will give you a chance to play with a few other people and maybe even form one or more parties of adventurers.

hello
this is me :-)

i have completed sou and hotu with a pure wizard
it was fun -- it was good
it was rewarding -- my english says thanks too :-)

i am impressed -- wizards are truly the kings of the game

when you play wizard is like being kenshiro -- in that you know you are going to outpower any foe

i have downloaded the world of rhun module
i must say i am displeased at four things

- first each loading takes minutes
- second the savegames occupy a hundred of megabytes each
- third the journal never tracks quests
- fourth my character is exported every once in a while thus populating the localvault folder with copies and copies of it

can something be done about these?
the way the module is i do not think i will play much

Just a reminder that I'm still hosting a NWN 1 server. If you've got the game and want to join us, choose multiplayer, then internet game, then choose DIRECT CONNECT and type in my server IP address 12.240.5.112

There is no player password required. The server is up 24/7 (unless my ISP crashes for some reason).

The module I'm running has many aspects similar to the style ROM2 HAT I used to run. The shops in the towns are there, but they sell pretty mediocre stuff. If you want really good gear, you have to perform quests (there are over 55 specific quests I have found and documented thus far) or go out into the dangerous parts of the world and take the gear from the "monsters" that dwell there.

The World of Rhun module has over 440 defined map regions your character can find and explore. I've been roaming around for about 3 weeks mapping as I go and I've only managed to visit about 180 of them so far. Though the module is technically the work of an ametuer group, it's on par with any professional game company's products.

Come and join us. We need the help (at least I do, I keep getting owned by some of the killer monsters). Granted the game is a handful of years old, but you ROM2 players know all about that sort of thing. And NWN is much more challenging and much more rewarding than ROM2.

Hope you see you there.

Also, since the Rhun module has a few "minor shortcomings" (it's not a completed work, it's simply the "as is" public release representing 2 years of progress by the World of Rhun development team), I'm looking for feedback and whatnot to make the module better and to make playing the module better. To that end, I'm hosting an excel spreadsheet in my hamachi shared files folder that contains information on all the in-game quests you can get, what NPC offers the quest, what they want you to do, and what the reward is if/when you complete the quest. Most modules have a feature included that automatically posts to your player journal so you don't have to remember all these quest details (or make your own notes), but that detail seems to have been left out of the World of Rhun. So until I can modify the module to include the automated player journal scripts, this will have to do as the next best thing. If you find any more quest information, please tell me and I will add it to the spread sheet.

The module guide books (world guidebook and underdark guidebook) plus full color maps of the World of Rhun are also in my hamachi shared files folder as is the entire World of Rhun module in case you want to play it offline, modify it, or even host it yourself. Feel free to grab any of those files, that's why I got 'em in the shared folder.

If you don't know how to get to my shared folder, just right click my name in hamachi and choose BROWSE. That will bring up a directory of all my shared files. You can share your own files/folders if you turn on Windows Simple File Sharing for Networks and then specify the folders you want shared.

The gold edition is the one I bought WAAAY back when. It's the original game plus the first expansion pack (Shadows of Undrentide - SoU). But in order to play on the module I'm currently hosting, you'll have to do several things beyond the gold pack as follows:

1. update to the latest patch v1.68 (there is an update menu choice right in the game)

2. Purchase and install the 2nd expansion pack, Hordes of the Underdark (HotU). This expansion adds a LOT of additional game content just like the first expansion pack did.

3. download the Community Expansion Pack (CEP). They are up to v2.0 now. This is essentially just a collection of player-created add-on game content which has been organized into a single, semi-official installation pack. If all you have is dialup, you'll be sorry because this is a 390 meg add-on. The added game content is well worth it though (and it's FREE).

Do all that, and yer in business and I'll see you on the server.

P.S. Since the module I'm running, World of Rhun, supposedly has around 440 detailed regions all interconnected by the various waypoints (doors, magic portals, cave entrances, map edge blue transition zones, etc), I'm attempting to put together a skeletal world layout map to help me navigate around. I've only been to about 150 of those regions so far, and I'm getting lost myself. So once I get it further along, I'll post it on my hamachi shared files folder so everyone else can use it (or not).

I'm waiting for the game to arrive. It's the gold edition. Whatever that means.

Ok if your thinking about playing NWN1 I am posting this for you. I am been plkaying with Nova on his server. Basically NWN is a pretty good game for solo CHaracter development. It is sorta of 3D as it was Post Rom2 era. Around 2000. It is a well constructed game with a lot of verbal conversal from the NPC. Leveling is not super hard, but it takes a bit of work to get started. Once you get to about level 10 you can move up much quicker. Money is NP in the game. You can only use the weapons ans spells at your level. I am interested enough in this game to attempt to create a map of my own based on my Novel The GreenWorld. I will run a server so you can experience the GreenWorld in my book. Before that happens I want to get a level 40 chr and do a lot of mods to the game. You can look at alot of NWN1 at www.Bioware.com The reason Nova and I are doing NWN 1 and not 2 is the newer version requires you to have a group. Groups are hard to play. You can make a small group in NWN1 too. They are called Henchment. You can add elemenetals and other helping NPC's. Go check out NWN is your ready for the next level of free server Rom2 type entertainment. There are dozens of maps to play on and many sub parts of the maps. NWN is a DEEP game much like WOW or SWG. Just not quite as smooth as they are or as uptodate. But for 30 bucks or less you can get the ball rolling and play. If you like Rom2 you will love NWN1.
